Lydbrook Res 2 – 4 Quedgeley Wanderers Res Scorer 10’, 35, TRIGG 20’, 75’, 85’, KING 60’ PLAYER SENT OFF 40’, 89’

Wanderers booked their place in the second round of the county cup with an eventful win away at Lydbrook.

Quedgeley started bright but conceded through a long ball early on. And this left the away side shell shocked as the home side sat back thereafter. However Wanderers soon levelled as a deep free kick bounced in the box and Tom Trigg was quickest to react to make it 1-1. Wanderers got on the front foot and were beginning to create but another set back occurred as Lydbrook grabbed their second just before half time. And to make matters worse in the blazing heat, Quedgeley had a player sent off for dissent minutes later leaving it a difficult task for the lads in the second half.

But they completed the task brilliantly in the second half, Wanderers came out of the blocks and got the ball on the floor and the equaliser eventually came after a huge amount of pressure. With Ethan King sliding in to finish after yet another scramble in the box.

Both teams began to tire in the heat but Wanderers still had quality to show, and Wanderers took the lead 15 minutes from time. Chris Knights throw beat the defence and Tom Trigg finished past the goalkeeper for his second of the game.

This gave Quedgeley a huge lift as they played more football and created even more chances, With Chris Knight and Ethan King missing good chances to rap up the game. But the game was rapped up with 5 minutes to go, a great counter attack involving Jordan rouse and Tom Trigg, with Trigg running through 1 vs 1 to chip the onrushing goalkeeper. But the drama did not stop there, Lydbrook had a set of late chances with Matt Hutchins making 2 brilliant saves, And Hutchins effectively killed the game by sacrificing himself in the final minutes making a deliberate foul with Lydbrook looking odds on to score. Hutchins saw red for his challenge but Lydrook missed the free kick. Leaving Wanderers to go through to the next round.

Overall it was another courageous performance with the number disadvantage and hot weather but once again the team pulled through.
