Quedgeley drew their second game in 2 weeks in what was a tough tie away at AFC phoenix.
Wanderers started the stronger and had huge amounts of possession throughout the first half, but like the previous week, it was the work in the final third which seemed to be failing them. They found possession in promising areas time and time again, but failed to make any of the domination count. Chances did come as Dean Hankins shot wide and Ethan King had a header cleared off the line. But Pheonix scored on the counter just before half time, bringing a sense of self destruction to the away team.
The second half seemed the same Quedgeley pushed on again but Pheonix grabbed another goal on the counter attack and it looked like it wasn’t going to be Quedgeley’s day. For all the football the away side had played somehow they were two nil down.
Wanderers went all out attack for the last quarter of the match, and a goal came almost straight away. Chris Gooch’s long throw was headed on by Scott Edwards and Dean Hankins flicked home to give them a lifeline. Wanderers kept plugging away as Pheonix failed to get out of their half and in the final minutes, Jordan Rouse was fouled in the box and Dean Hankins slotted the penalty to rescue a point for Quedgeley.
It was the least they deserved for the football they played in the first half and they showed great team spirit and to pull it back, but once again little mistakes have cost Wanderers all three points.
