Quedgeley booked their place in the next round of the County Cup with a 2 – 1 win at home to Longlevens Thirds.
Wanderers started the stronger and dominated possession for much of the game. Ethan King and Tom Hughes had little to do in defence as the Quedgeley midfield saw a lot of the ball. But once again it seemed to be the quality in the final third that was lacking as Quedgeley worked the ball time and time again. But the final ball looked to be missing.
A brilliant final ball did come though midway through the first half. Alex McCatty supplied a brilliant free kick which was headed into the bottom corner by Pete Bull, the goalkeeper somehow tipped the ball away only for Jordan Rouse to pounce and finish to give Wanderers the lead.
Quedgeley deserved their lead but midway through the second half Longlevens equalised, meaning the home side went another game without a clean sheet. But the attacking football soon paid off and Quedgeley got their second. Chris Gooch’s cross found Dean Hankins who smashed home with minutes to go.
For the last 10 minutes, Quedgeley hung on without Scott Moroney having to make too many saves and deserved their place in the last 16. Being a home tie verses Sharpness on the 3rd December.
