Sharpness got their revenge on Quedgeley for their cup exit as the away team fell short on what was a cold New Year’s Eve.
Quedgeley started downhill with the wind and looked good as Sharpness failed to get out of their half. The first half was dominated by the away team who created numerous chances on goal. Dean Hankins and Pete Bull missed good chances early on but the domination soon paid off as Chris Rigby scored into the bottom corner from James Lawes’ pass. Quedgeley were unable to add to their tally, but never understood the help the wind had given them until the second half.
The game changed round the other way as it was Quedgeley’s turn to struggle. Sharpness kept pushing forward and Quedgeley failed to create any real chances. And eventually Sharpness equalised before scoring a second on the counter attack with only 10 minutes left to play.
Quedgeley tried to battle but failed to create anything with the hill and wind making things difficult, making it their third defeat in a row.
Overall it was difficult, cold conditions which made life difficult for both teams. But Quedgeley look back disappointed as they should have taken their chances in the first half.
