Quedgeley were unlucky not to take anything from their home game against one of the league favourites in a tight game which saw plenty of goals.

Abbeymead started with plenty of possession but were caught on the counter as Ethan Kings long ball was chased by Pete Bull; the Abbeymead goalkeeper missed the ball with his kick from the edge of the box leaving Bull with a simple tap in to put the home team one up.

Abbeymead saw plenty of the ball hereafter but Quedgeley defended well, and looked dangerous on the counter attack. But Abbeymead found an equaliser mid-way through the first half. A foul in the box resulting in a penalty for the away team. With the game balanced out Quedgeley went up the other end and scored again, Jordan Rouse’s pass found Chris Rigby who shot from the edge of the box, the Abbeymead goalkeeper somehow fumbled the ball over himself into the net.

With another lead to protect, Quedgeley responded in better fashion and looked more resilient. But Abbeymead still found an equaliser before the break, an Abbeymead corner was cleared; however the ball fell to an Abbeymead player who hit a 30 yard shot off the top of the post and in. An unstoppable shot which felt a little harsh on the home side right before the half time whistle.

Quedgeley started the second half, and crumbled within minutes. After losing possession twice abbeymead punished them on the break both times to make it 2- 4 to the away side. This shocked the home side and it took a while for Quegdeley to find any sort of pattern. And injuries after Quedgeley had made their sub meant they had to play the last 25 minutes with 10 men. Abbeymead were happy to keep the ball and Quedgeley struggled to chase for the final ¼ of the game. However they did pull a goal back, another pass from Jordan Rouse found Pete Bull, who beat his man before scoring to set up a tense final five minutes.

But with 10 players Quedgeley couldn’t create any other clear chances and Abbeymead held on to take the three points. Overall it was a better performance from the previous week but there is still work to be done.
