Quedgeley were unlucky to lose by such a harsh score line against top of the table Avonvale.

Wanderers saw little of the ball as Avonvale dominated possession throughout the whole match. But Quedgeley did look dangerous on the counter attack as they won the ball numerous times in midfield.

The away team scored early on through a 25 yard strike which wrong footed Dean Hankins in goal. However after this the game was very even, neither goalkeeper really had much to do although Hankins did make one great save late on in the half. But with the score 0 – 1 at half time, Quedgeley were still very much in the tie.

For the second half Quedgeley made changes as Scott Maroney went in goal and Hankins moved up front. But as Quedgeley pushed for an equaliser, Avonvale broke with speed and a cross from the right was met with a bullet header which bounced in off the cross bar, which once again, the goalkeeper could do nothing about. To the home side’s credit, they did not sit back and tried to create chances and a goal came midway through the second half. Alex McCatty long throw found Dean Hankins, who was unable to control and shoot from only a few yards out, but Liam Kay was on hand to finish alongside him to give the home team some hope.

The game became end to end as both team tried to score, Avonvale still had most of the ball but Quedgeley tried to pile on the pressure, Avonvale grabbed another as Wanderers got caught on the counter attack again before Chris Gooch hit the post. And it was Avonvale who had the last say who scored another with 10 minutes to go.

Overall this was a tough fixture against a good team who were comfortable on the ball, but Quedgeley know their mistakes and must get their heads up ready for next week’s game verses Matchplay.
